Those who thought that Microsoft’s Internet Explorer is dead check this out. Microsoft released the latest version of their Internet browser and in the first twenty four hours, it was downloaded about 2.35 million times. Beta version was downloaded just one million times in the first day after it was released. For IE9 final version, there were 27 downloads every second or 98,000 downloads every hour. Internet Explorer senior director, Ryan Gavin, thanked everyone around the world for such enthusiastic reception on IE blog.

The numbers of IE9 aren’t really as impressive as compared to the other browsers. For instance, Mozilla Firefox 3.5 version was downloaded a million times within a few hours when it was released in 2009. Also, the earlier version, Mozilla Firefox 3.0 was downloaded eight million times within the first 24 hours of its release.

The new and updated version of Internet Explorer now comes with HTML5, do-not-track function which is built-in and the UI too has been improved. You can download it from BeautyoftheWeb.com. IE9 will be facing stiff competition from Mozilla Firefox. There will be new Firefox 4 version released on 22nd of March.

A recent patent application by electronics giant Samsung could have the answer. The patent describes a system for parents to monitor their offspring's mobile activity through their own handset. It scans incoming images - either from the web, or the phone's internal camera - for pornographic content by searching for large regions of exposed skin. If the image looks suspect, the child is locked out from accessing it and a copy is sent to their parent's phone, who can choose to allow access in the case of a false alarm, such as a cosmetics advert.

The patent also covers a number of modifications to the system, such as warning the child that a message will be sent to their parents if they don't stop looking at pornographic images, or extending the system to cover other devices like a PC, TV or other media player.

So can parents say goodbye to unwanted flesh on phones? Perhaps, but there's no reason to think the system will actually be implemented - companies register thousands of patents that never see the light of day. Even if Samsung does develop the software, they might find bare skin detection a tricky problem - the inventors of a recent Chatroulette filter had to resort to more advanced methods for keeping porn at bay.

Simon Flash to be coming soon

If there is one thing that doesn’t seem to go out of fashion, it is Simon. The game where the player must use their memory and repeat a flashing pattern of colored lights has been imitated in Loopz and various other iPhone Apps.
It has now been updated into Simon Flash, which is essentially Simon split up into 4 different blocks of red, blue, green, and yellow. I suppose that you could put these blocks quite a distance apart, and get some exercise while you play the memory game.
In addition to the often imitated memory game, the user can also play a different game based on another age-old and often imitated game: Mastermind. The player will have to find out a secret color combination in a certain amount of moves, says my Source.
There is no word as to when the Simon Flash will be available, nor a price. I would imagine that you would have to put a battery or a few batteries in each particular square, and these squares would have to be somehow linked together, perhaps with Bluetooth.
You know, I have a great idea. Is there any way that someone could take 4 iPhones or 4 smartphones and link them together to make a DIY Simon game? If you know of anyone who has done this and has it on YouTube, leave us a comment with the link.

Lenovo IdeaPad Y560d – Not recommended for gaming enthusiasts

3D became quickly popular in the televisions but this technology is taking its own time in laptops and desktops. This is a bit surprising especially because the functional and tested 3D infrastructure has been around for a long time through Nvidia’s 3D Vision technology. I have seen only a couple of laptops with glasses and 3D hardware. Maybe its because gamers prefer consoles to laptops when it comes to gaming.
Lenovo IdeaPad Y560d that I got in my labs for testing is based on TriDef 3D technology which is the same as that on the  Acer Aspire 5738DG-6165 that I tested last year. Both these notebooks offer poolarized glasses instead of battery power active shutter glasses used on Nvidia 3D Vision notebooks and lots of other consumer 3D devices.

The cost of the Lenovo IdeaPad Y560d is $1,399 and it is priced quite reasonably for its components as the ATI Radeon 5730 graphics and  Intel Core i7 processor are quite high end. However, there are other products like the non-3D HP Envy 14 which starts at just $999 and a config closer to the Y560d will cost you $1,249. Also, there is Toshiba’s 3D Satellite A665-3DV which costs $1,599 and has similar specs along with Blu-ray drive and Nvidia’s 3D Vision hardware. The latter is much better for gaming.
The main problem on the Lenovo IdeaPad Y560d is that the TriDef 3D system works well but is not particularly impressive. You have to tilt the screen to an angle for running the apps through the third party app and this kills the performance. In my lab tests, the frames dropped drastically in the 3D mode. The sample games and videos that I tired gave good 3D experience but mostly, I had to close one eye or look away or squint.
Without the 3D feature, the Lenovo IdeaPad Y560d is an excellent high end notebook with nice design. However, if you don’t really need 3D, I would recommend you to take a look at other Lenovo IdeaPad laptops which are less expensive and give good great nice performance too.

Lenovo has always been generous in IdeaPad line’s design and it continues the tradition here too. Lenovo IdeaPad Y560d is far from the traditional office-oriented laptops from this manufacturer courtesy of the funky tribal tattoo on the lid. Apart from that, the design is quite similar to other systems like IdeaPad Y460. Both of these have a copper accent strip on the lid’s outer edge and on the inside, there is a mix of matte black buttons and black plastic which is not too glossy.
On the keyboard’s top, there is a row of touch sensitive buttons with backlighitng. A quick launch bar pops up when you slide your finger back and forth on it. There are assignable slots for the different apps. It is really cool but you will need some time to get used to it. Running the finger on the right part can even change the desktop background but I never got hang of it in my lab tests.

After so much progress made by its rival companies like Google inc. and FaceBook(not so rival), Yahoo is now all set to ease its user registration task. Yahoo.com(USA) site has PageRank-9 that is assigned by Google based on quality and some formula. From the last few years, Yahoo is constantly loosing its user base. It was first started with launch of Gmail and Google Talk. And its search engine has 17.7% share (dated May 2010 by Techcrunch) actually its slightly increased.
Even Google Orkut is also competing with Facebook. FB has 500+ million users base reported by their official blog. So the competition is getting higher and higher it includes Twitter and other social sites too.
So to get more visitors and increase its share, Yahoo has decided to allow users to use Facebook and Google credentials to use its services. People are already using Google accounts to create new Flickr accounts since last summer. To use any Yahoo service like Delicious we need to have Yahoo account. For some people its a time consuming task and many end up by leaving the site as a result it results in low membership.

“Yahoo has to do something to reverse the trend lines,” said Gartner analyst Ray Valdes.”They are redefining a new role for themselves as the Switzerland of the Web.”

In addition to this, last year Yahoo Microsoft also made a deal. But the impact was not so great on the market share.

Mike Kerns, Yahoo’s vice president of social and personalization, said the new third-party sign-in approach will make it even easier for new users to use Yahoo.

They are ready to allow third party sign-in tool but still its Mail and Messenger service will continue to use Yahoo-specific account to keep the information safe and private.
Pretty soon they will include AOL, Twitter, Microsoft and other famous 3rd party services to ease sign-in and the registration process. This step is good and it will help them to enhance to their market share and value.
